Příbor

The town is located above the river Lubina. It was founded in the 13th century on the old merchants´ route leading from Moravia to Silesia. This period is perceptible in the regular ground plan of the town with an oblong town square, in the remains of medieval fortifications and in the Gothic Church of the Birth of Our Lady. The houses on the town square are built in Renaissance and from three sides are surrounded by original arcades. Baroque left its traces on the facades of the houses, on the Marian column and, first of all, in the work of Viennese architect G.P.Tencalla – on the building of the Early Baroque piarist College. These days the former college houses the Regional museum with exposition dedicated to the personage and work of Sigmund Freud, who was born here. In the Zámečnická Street is situated his birth house with a plaque.
