Zoological Garden in Liberec

Location:

The ZOO is located in a colourful valley near the town centre. Some parts of the ZOO territory are wooded, some free runs stretch to the rocky slopes. In the valley flows a stream. The paths for the visitors enable comfortable walks. In the ZOO complex there are new refreshment possibilities.

Specialization:

Breeding of rare and endangered species. The ZOO has a significant merit in preservation of the genetic resources of Somali donkeys, macaque ibex, and other rare species. It organizes a breeding station for rhinoceros. It participates in 4 European breeding programs of the EEP and is a member of 4 committees.

Breeds:

527 mammals in 63 species, 249 birds in 66 species, 20 reptiles in 9 species, 22 fish in 5 species.

The most significant species:

Eagles, macaque, chimpanzee, orang-utan, snow catamount, Somali donkey, rhinoceros, northern musk, Rothschild’s giraffe, Indian tiger in the white form and others. The number of the breeding species listed in the Red Book of endangered animals: 10, the number of the breeding species endangered in Czech nature: 13.

Recommended visit:

Utility building, breeding equipment for birds of prey, exposition of penguins, pavilion of giraffes, pavilion of apes, free run of chimpanzees, pavilion for orang-utans, paddock for white tigers.

Rarity:

The Liberec ZOO is the only one in the central Europe, which breeds white tigers. The tigers Kolumbus and Isabela were imported from Sweden.

Transportation:

Within the reach of the town transportation.
