Medical Tourism

Czech medicine attracts thousands of tourists every year.

The Czech Republic has gradually emerged as a favourite European destination for medical tourism. The reason for this is not only the affordable price but also the historically excellent level of medicine and accomplished stage of education of Czech specialists and medical staff alike. The beauty of the country, the inhabitants’ hospitality, the unique cultural heritage and Czech spas as well as specialities of the local cuisine – all these together provide harmony, which is sought out by people from all over the world.

How to choose the right country? Why come to the Czech Republic?

When people are looking for a procedure provider, they tend to focus on the credentials of the doctor and forget about another important factor – the country where the doctor and hospital are located. The country determines many things about the quality of care you will receive. Required staffing levels, required equipment for the hospital, required hygiene procedures, required reporting of failures, such as infection rates, required education and experience for medical professionals and regulation for use of medicines – all these things determine the standard of care through regulation. You must also consider the cultures of the countries which determine attitudes such as the work ethic of the staff, the cleanliness ethic of the staff, the care ethic of the staff and the medical tradition of the culture, because a history of medical research in the culture leads to higher standards of the medical personnel.

Internationally renowned doctors

Choose our services and you will be treated by doctors who are trained and certified. The title Doctor of Medicine (Medicinae Universae Doctor - MUDr.) is awarded to graduates from the Medical Faculty of the Charles University after six years of study. All of them have long-term experience working in leading European hospitals. They write international publications and lecture to their colleagues on a world stage. They advance their medical knowledge by participating in the latest developments in medicine. They are foreigner-friendly, have experience treating international patients and are able to speak at least English, German and Russian. They work in clean and sterile environments and have access to the latest medical technology.

High European level of technology and standards of care in the Czech Republic

Czech healthcare has in the past been able to pride itself on many success stories on both European and global levels – e.g. the Czech Professor Otto Wichterle invented the soft contact lens, and Jaroslav Heyrovsky won the 1959 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his discovery and development of polarographic methods of analysis. Today, the excellence of Czech medicine allows us to have one of the lowest infant mortality rates in the world; our country is well-known for its many success stories in oncology and cardiology treatment, infertility treatment and eye surgery. The high standard of Czech medical and research centres, accessible up-to-date diagnosis and medical devices also allow for implementation of cutting-edge methods in practice and subsequent help to patients from all around the world.

Robotic surgery is a radical step in Czech practical medicine first performed in 2006. This concerns a device with several “tentacles” controlled by a surgeon that enable him to reach deeper into the patient’s body through a hole much smaller than if performed manually. It also allows the surgeon to navigate more accurately and to move more skilfully inside the body.

One of the main pillars ensuring the stability of the cooperating medical centres is patient safety and the high quality of the services they provide. Monitoring, controlling and improving medical standards, the management track dozens of parameters to assess the quality level of hospital procedures and their safety. Many medical institutions in the Czech Republic apply for some of the prestigious international certifications and awards, e.g. accreditation by JCI (Joint Commission International). Experienced auditors spent many days going through the hospital in almost every department in the medical institution in order to verify whether they complied with the accreditation standards in practice.

An accredited hospital is able to guarantee its patients safe and high quality care by continuous tracking, analysis and improvement of quality markers in all areas of the hospital’s operations. Accreditation is awarded for a period of three years, after which the healthcare facility must again apply for accreditation and provide proof of improvements in procedures and effectiveness that it has achieved over these three years.

And what else… – in addition to your treatment you can undergo rehabilitation in an amazing country – the Czech Republic – famous for its 37 medical spas, rich cultural heritage, Prague and superb gastronomy. Enjoy your stay!
