The Schwarzenberg family lived here for a full three hundred years up to World War Two when the chateau was occupied by Gestapo and the family emigrated over the sea. The residence was alive mostly in the autumn during the hunting period, when the leading European aristocracy came here.
Why visit?
White brickwork, battlements, loopholes, towers and spires, oriels, pointed windows, partitioned plan – all this recalls the romantic countryside estate of English kings, Windsor Castle. All premises of Hluboká and the landscape around were reconstructed precisely according to its plan.
