Festival Brno - City in the center of Europe opens the main tourist season in South Moravia. Be a part of it!
Every year at the beginning of the summer tourist season Brno along with the Brno Dam and Veveří Castle become a venue for a traditional festival. From May 21 to June 22 the city and its surroundings will be filled with fireworks, various festival programs and other events.
The festival is traditionally associated with the Ignis Brunensis International competition of fireworks. It began on Friday, May 23 with the firework performance above the Špilberk Castle
When and where to go for fireworks
The competition show, during which the top three foreign groups from Croatia, Greece and Austria will compete together with the domestic group Theatrum Pyroboli, will be held 7.6, 11.6, 14.6 and 18.6 at the Brno dam. At the introduction of all performances the mandatory musical part of the music composer Leoš Janáček, from whose birth this year it will be 160 years, will ring out. The festival will conclude with the EPILOGUE fireworks show on Saturday, June 21 above Špilberk Castle. All performances start at 10.30 pm.
Food as fantasy, game and passion
Špilberk Castle will also participate in the festival program several more times. From June 6 to 8 the Špilberk Food Festival will be held in the castle for the third time. The festival menu is prepared by the most well-known restaurants from Brno and its surroundings. A bartending show, cooking school, a tasting of beer wine and spirits as well as other events are prepared that will introduce gastronomy as an art, passion and fun. A week later, on Saturday and Sunday the 14th and 15th June, the Špilberk Castle Festival with a program for visitors of all ages will be held.
Masks, parades and jugglers
An extremely attractive item on the agenda every year is the international theatre festival Theatre World Brno The dramaturgy of each year is based on a living personality, this year the master of conversational humor Woody Allen will be the center of attention. The theatre festival begins on Friday, June 6 with a grand celebration, called the Jugglers’ Night. Its end a week later, on Friday, June 13, is accompanied by the monumental Festival of Masks. On that day, colorful parades of all theater companies that participate in the festival program, will walk through the center of the city. The fantastic masks, which turn the city into a carnival party, are one of the best things that the festival has to offer every year.
