The men’s and women’s Cross-Country Skiing World Cup will again be held in February in Nový Město na Moravě. After a break of three years, this year will be the twentieth year of the modern races organised by the people in Nový Město na Moravě.
Skiing has a long tradition in Vysočina. Around 3,000 enthusiasts were already skiing here at the start of the 20th century. The first cross-country skiing races were held in Nový Město na Moravě on 2 February 1910. Sixteen competitors, one of them a woman, set out on a route which was ten kilometres in length. You can watch the dramatic course of the first ever race unfold in the reconstruction that has been prepared. The organisers have prepared this for visitors to the Golden Ski as an interlude between the two main races of the World Cup.
