Locality
The complex consists of the classical ZOO situated on a plain, which is open all year round, and the seasonal safari, located in a mildly wavy terrain with a number of water areas. Part of the ZOO can be seen by car or little train. In front of the ZOO entrance gate there is a high-capacity parking place, in the complex you have several possibilities to buy some refreshment, souvenirs or promotional materials.

Specialization
African fauna, especially ungulates. The Zoo belongs to the world-significant breeders of African cloven-hoofed animals. It co-ordinates the European breeding program of rhinoceros and takes care of the handicapped animals of the domestic fauna. It significantly contributes to preservation of the genetic fond in the Czech nature by reintroduction of the northern lynx and capercailzie. It also participated in the reintroduction of buffalo species and of horse antelope in the nature of the South African Republic. It participates in 31 European preservation programs of the EEP.
Breeds
747 mammals in 69 species, 414 birds in 92 species, 47 reptiles in 11 species, 274 fish in 55 species, 296 invertebrates in 33 species.
The most significant species
Cheetah, orang-utan, Cuban crocodile, gavial, cockatoo, several rhinoceros species, elephant, steinbocks, fossa, catamount, gorilla and other species. The number of breeding species listed in the Red Book of endangered animals: 45; the number of breeding species endangered in the Czech nature: 17.

Rarity
A unique species of rhinoceros of the northern form. There are only 24 pieces of these animals in the world and 9 of them live in this ZOO. The ZOO in Dvůr Králové is the only one in the Czech Republic, which breeds them.
Transportation
Buses from Hradec Králové, Praha and Trutnov. Train station for express trains on the line Pardubice- Hradec Králové-Liberec is situated about 3 km from the town.
Anyone who enjoyed playing at soldiers as a kid, who loves history, or who just wants to see something special should certainly head for the South Moravian town of Slavkov u Brna at the end of November.
