Location:

It is situated in the city quarter Bystrc in the locality Mniší hory on the slopes of oak and beech woods, around 5 km from the city centre. It is reachable by tram; parking site is situated in front of the entrance gate. In the ZOO complex are possibilities of refreshment and souvenirs.

Specialization:

African cloven-hoofed animals. Zoo participated in re-introduction of antelopes adax in the Moroccan nature. It takes care of handicapped animals of our fauna and operates as a retaining centre for confiscated animals. It participates in 13 European breeding programs of the EEP.

Breeds:

207 mammals in 61 species, 128 birds in 45 species, 108 reptiles in 23 species, 2 amphibians in one specie, 492 fish in 101 species.

The most significant species:

Turtle species, Nile crocodile, grey parrot, Bengal cat, caracal, jaguar, Ceylon panther. The number of breeding species stated in the Red Book of endangered animas: 36, the number of breeding species endangered in the Czech nature: 9.

Recommended visits:

The large paddock of African cloven-hoofed animals, the permanent aquarium exposition in the city centre.

Rarity:

The ZOO has an extensive tropical nature exposition of typical representatives of tropical fauna and flora from Madagascar, Amazon, Africa and other localities in the “Tropical kingdom”. It is the best exposition of that kind in the Czech Republic, corresponding with its complex conception to the west European standards. You will see animals and plants of particular locations in mutual coexistence. The safari exposition is also the largest one in the Czech Republic.
