Town

In the 15th century King George raised the status of the town of Poděbrady to the royal town. Already in the 17th century on one healing spring a small spa was built. The recent history of the town and spas has its beginning in the period of Art Nouveau, when another strong mineral spring was discovered. The spring contains a lot of carbonic acid, magnesium and calcium. The spa centre is hidden in the green of the parks. Flat area near the river Labe surrounded by forests is ideal for the treatment of heart diseases. The town is also famous with the production of crystal plumbic glass. Romantic environment is suitable for relaxation as well as active tourism.

Treatment

The natural healing source is mineral carbonic water. The spa is specialized in the treatment of vascular and heart diseases, diabetes, and the disorders of the motor system.

*Poděbrady mineral water was discovered by a stick in 1905 by the famous water-diviner, the Prussian nobleman Büllow.

*In 1926 the remarkable spa doctor MUDr. Libenský, originated the Cardiologic Institute in Poděbrady and initiated the tradition of “heart spas” with usage of carbonic baths and strict medical care.
