Czech Prince Vladislav II originated the monastery in Plasy in 1144 as a consisting part of his tendencies to colonize uninhabited territories of the state in the early Middle Ages. The extensive medieval construction of the church became extinct in the grand Baroque reconstruction by Giovanni B. Santini and Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer. Chancellor Metternich realised the last changes in the 19th century. The original Baroque hygienic facilities and the whole system of sanitation and ventilation are the real unique of the monastery.
