Cycle tourism is booming in the Czech Republic. At least, that’s how it appears from the rate at which cycling routes are expanding. There are now more than 37,000 km of bicycle routes and trails in the Czech Republic, according to a survey by CzechTourism. That is roughly the same as in Germany, which country is 4-1/2 times larger. Does this mean that the Czech Republic is a paradise for bicycling lovers?
The British Business Destinations journal announced the first annual tourism awards (The Business Destinations Travel Awards 2008). The Czech Republic was awarded two prizes. The congress department of the CzechTourism agency was awarded the title of “the best agency in business tourism in Central Europe”; President hotel “the best small business hotel” in central Europe.
The recent phenomenon of so-called ‘Dark Tourism’ attracts visitors to places where a tragedy or accident has taken place in the distant or sometimes not so distant past. CzechTourism has been running a poll on

These days, altering the way you look through surgery
is commonplace. It’s quite safe to say that all you need is money, a good doctor
and a bit of determination. Financing the operation and the skill of the surgeon
are also factors when choosing the place you undergo the surgery. Many people
are not afraid to travel abroad. Medical tourism has become a phenomenon of our
time, and thanks to the superb reputation enjoyed by local cosmetic surgeons the
Czech Republic is a force to be reckoned with, as far as foreign tourists are
concerned, that is – Czechs, it would seem, are far more cautious, and at least
for now prefer home-grown specialists.
The number of tourists holidaying at Czech campsites
decreases every year. While in 2004 camps received 1.3 million visitors, last
year that figure had fallen by 300,000. So what does the future hold for
Czech campsites? Will visitor numbers stagnate further or will we see a revival?
Growing interest in ecotourism and agrotourism seems play into camping’s hands,
but a lot depends on improving services and marketing.
The travel industry is under greater pressure to
behave in an environmentally friendly way more than ever. Hotels and travel
agents strive to attain ‘environmental’ certification which guarantees their
green credentials, and ecology is now not just a good cause but good business
sense, too. Agrotourism has, for a long time, been an obvious form of
sustainable tourism, and in the Czech Republic it thrives in very specific
conditions.
The spas these days are no longer simply the haunt of
the old and convalescing patients. Everyone these days is into healthy
lifestyles and the Czech spas are adapting to these new trends. The spas are
holding their own in the face of stiff competition in Europe, mainly thanks to
their longstanding traditions and the use of naturally occurring curative
resources combined with top-notch medical care.
