After Christmas comes the end of the year and New Year’s Eve. Wild New Year’s Eve celebrations fill the streets and squares of all Czech towns, and fireworks light up the dark winter sky. New Year’s Eve can be celebrated in many restaurants and pubs, music clubs and concert halls.

The Czech Philharmonic

Fans of classical music can attend a New Year’s Eve concert, and a New Year’s Day concert immediately afterwards, given by the Czech Philharmonic (www.ceskafilharmonie.cz), which in 2006 celebrated its 110th year.

Stylish New Year’s Eve celebrations, marvellous surroundings and wonderful music are waiting for you at the State Opera (www.opera.cz).

Dance and entertainment

Prague has more than its fair share of dance clubs. To name only a few: Lucerna Music Bar (www.musicbar.cz), Futurum (www.musicbar.cz/futurum), Lávka (www.lavka.cz) or Duplex (www.duplex.cz). Techno and drum’n bass resounds all night in the clubs Abaton (www.prostorabaton.cz), Roxy (www.roxy.cz), Mecca (www.mecca.cz), Matrix (www.matrixklub.cz), Radost FX (www.radostfx.cz) and many more, with appearances by resident as well as international DJs.

Jazz in Prague

Are you a fan of jazz? The jazz clubs Agharta (www.agharta.cz), Reduta (www.redutajazzclub.cz), U Staré paní, Ungelt (www.jazzblues.cz) are all to be found in Prague’ Old Town.

New Year’s Eve at a spa

An enticing New Year’s Eve programme also awaits you at the famous West Bohemian spa town of Carlsbad. For instance, every year the Grandhotel Pupp (www.pupp.cz) puts on a ball which opens the ball season and a New Year’s Eve gala evening, featuring a special programme and a huge firework display.
