Loket Castle
The medieval castle at Loket near the West Bohemian spa town of Carlsbad holds an old Bohemian Advent fair in December, accompanied by a number of cultural events. Visitors can look forward to a jousting tournament, fire-eaters, a children’s cake tournament, a live nativity scene and much besides. You can also buy traditional Czech products at the market stalls (glass, straw and corn doll Christmas decorations etc).
Křivoklát Castle
Křivoklát Castle also puts on a lively programme of Christmas events every year. This includes a Christmas fair, theatre and dance performances and demonstrations of old handicrafts.

Special evening tours of the magnificent chateau in Náměšť na Hané held in mid December are an entertaining way of seeing what Advent was all about in the Middle Ages.

Anyone who enjoyed playing at soldiers as a kid, who loves history, or who just wants to see something special should certainly head for the South Moravian town of Slavkov u Brna at the end of November. Here, the re enactment of the famous Battle of the Three Emperors will take place. Nearly a thousand enthusiasts will do battle in period uniforms.
