This unique on-shore lighthouse opens up views over the Chřiby and Bílé Karpaty Mountains. Available for tourists from May 2008, this new dominant feature of Staré Město, near Uherské Hradiště, can be found in the grounds of the former sugar factory in the industrial zone.
The untraditional design in the form of a lighthouse is associated with the philosophy of the waste processing company on whose land it stands. The lighthouse is designed to show the general public “the way through a sea of waste”. It is situated 187 m above sea level. The height of the observation tower is 27 m and, after completing the 96 steps, the visitor has a view not only of the entire grounds but also the whole of Staré Město and Uherské Hradiště. Here you will have a panoramic view of Buchlov Castle in the Chřiby Mountains and the Bílé Karpaty Mountain belt as if in the palm of your hand.
Inside the building there is a photography gallery, featuring a presentation on how the lighthouse arose and an exhibition of photographs from the builder of the lighthouse, Mr. Bronislav Janeček. Under the observation tower there is a large wooden ship, which serves as the new tourist information centre. It is also possible to arrange a trip up the lighthouse at night, when its entire surroundings are illuminated by a moving flood-light, just like a real coastal lighthouse.
Large groups of 30 or more people have the opportunity to combine a visit to the lighthouse keeper with a trip on a sightseeing train around the surrounding area. This service can only be arranged by prior appointment.
