Hotel U Tří čápů (At the Three Storks) under Prague Castle with outstanding modern interior design
Premiere type: Comfort of the towns. We recommend for: Relaxing holiday.
Announced: August 2008
The luxurious five-star boutique hotel U Tří Čápů is situated in the quiet setting of the Malá Strana quarter under the majestic Prague Castle, in close proximity to tourist attractions, famous sites and renowned restaurants of Prague. It offers an exceptional and original setting, designed by the AI DESIGN architectural studio in co-operation with the Eva Jiřičná Architects studio of London, sensitively fitted into the premises of the historic U Tří čápů house and creating a perfect harmony between the existing renaissance interior and the most modern design.
During reconstruction of the building, major emphasis was placed on the application of clear lines and combinations of natural materials, including metal, stone, glass and wood. The interior design of the hotel reception and lobby bar has been highly unconventional, both being dominated by counters made of illuminated cut stone. A further interesting feature incorporated into the entire complex is a panoramic lift, which facilitates access to individual guest rooms.
The hotel offers accommodation in 10 De Luxe double rooms, 8 standard double rooms and 2 single rooms. The low number of rooms allows for the intimacy and homeliness of a small hotel, whilst at the same time meeting the high levels of quality and service that an international five-star hotel demands.
History of the house
The first mention about the history of this house, sometimes also called the Altmann House or House at the Three Magi, dates back to the 14th century when the Augustinian order founded the first monastic brewery of St. Thomas on this site. Today, the only reminder of this period is a large Gothic cellar. In the first half of the 17th century, the house was reconstructed in the Renaissance style and given the name At the Three Storks, along with a house emblem with three storks set in relief.
The present appearance of the facade comes from a Classicist reconstruction undertaken in 1794 and 1820, when a connection with three neighbouring buildings resulted in the current aspect of the whole house. The facade, with its stone plaque and house emblem, and the main portal both date from this period.
