Svojanov Castle – permanent exhibition of life at the castle in the 2nd half of the 19th century
Premiere type: Monuments and history. We recommend for: Relaxing holiday.
On the first floor of Svojanov Castle Palace, a brand new exhibition has been opened that presents the aristocratic style of living in the second half of the 19th century. On display are beautiful pieces of furniture, a period oven and similar valuables.
For the first time since opening the castle to the public, the Empire style halls have been fully equipped with historic furniture. The exhibition is based on the traditional division into a ladies’ section, a gentlemen’s section and a common section. The entry area is a gentlemen’s reception hall, followed by a study room. In the second part of the exhibition, there is a dining room and a scullery, followed by a ladies’ hall and bedroom. The exhibition’s curiosity is its collection of clocks from the 19th century. The furniture in the halls is supplemented with diverse items of everyday life, including porcelain, decorative curtains and other items. As the castle was mostly owned by bourgeois townspeople of Polička in the 19th century, the furniture and equipment of the chambers are also largely of the bourgeois style.
Visitors can also inspect a gothic hall, representing the best-preserved interior part of the original castle palace. It is furnished in the hunting style. On the walls are various hunting trophies and pictures with hunting themes. The tour of the castle also includes a stroll along the gallery of the medieval walls, a visit to the ruins of the renaissance palace, and a climb up to the lookout platform in the castle tower. In the castle grounds, you can also see a gothic garden with flowerbeds, herbs and orchard, as well as a new permanent exhibition of birds of prey in the castle aviaries.
The castle now also provides wedding ceremonies in the historic interiors, in the garden, and in other outdoor areas. The castle has its own restaurant, which can cater for wedding receptions, and rooms in the castle annex to accommodate guests. During the castle’s opening hours, the restaurant can be used only by those holding tickets for tours of the castle.
