The reconstructed Chotoviny Chateau

Premiere type: Monuments and history. We recommend for: Relaxing holiday.
Announced: June 2008

Chotoviny Chateau in Southern Bohemia, not far from Tábor, has been reconstructed and is open to the public for occasional events. The chateau is suitable for wedding ceremonies, congresses, conferences, seminars, exhibitions and other events, including accommodation. The chateau is surrounded by a French garden and a protected English park.

The classic-style chateau, dating from 1770–80, was built by Cardinal Kašpar Migazzi on the site of a 13th century fortress. The current appearance of the chateau dates from 1873, in which year it was adjusted by Jan Nádherný to the neo-Renaissance style. The Nádherný family held the chateau until 1945, after which it was confiscated and the family fled first to Austria and then to the USA. Later, the chateau housed a school. Following the restitution in 1997, the chateau is once again in the possession of the Nádherný family. The school left the chateau in 2001, following which the premises underwent thorough reconstruction.
