The Chateau Kamenice nad Lipou – Restored Monument

The late-Classicist chateau with remains of the original castle originated by Renaissance re-building of the Gothic castle in the second half of the 16th century, its present-day late-Classicist form coming of the first half of the 19th century.
Till 1945 the estate was owned by the family of the Viennese banker Geymüller that took very good
care of the chateau and the town. Up to 1998 the object served as a children‘s convalescence house,
later passed over to the management of the Museum of Applied Arts in Prague and after extensive
reconstruction in 2004 opened its gates for the public for the first time. In a part of the object
there is the seat of the Municipal Museum the expositions of which are devoted to the past and
present time of the town and the chateau. Installed in another part of the chateau are the
expositions of the Museum of Applied Art in Prague, first of all toys and collection of forged iron
works. The programme is completed by thematic and art exhibitions, the opening is being prepared of
the study depository of furniture.
