31. 5. 2013 - 2. 6. 2013
Emperor Charles IV (David Suchařípa) will set off on his journey accompanied by his wife Elizabeth of Pomerania (Iveta Jiříčková), knights and courtiers from Prague Castle already on Friday evening, May 31. He will leave St. Vitus Cathedral with Crown jewels at 19:30 and continue through the streets of historical Prague centre to Charles square where this part of the parade will end with a historical programme. There is a lot to be expected – a lot of medieval music, period dances, exciting knight duel and a breathtaking fire show at the end.
About three hundred volunteers in period costumes participate in the parade every year. Everybody can join them- either dressed in a historical costume or in plain clothes! You can rent your own costume or you can register on internet pages of the Royal parade www.kralovskypruvod.eu and we will provide it to you!
The weekend part of the parade programme (June 1-2) will move to Central Bohemia. On Saturday, June 1 at 10:00 the parade will set off from Chuchle via Radotín and Černošice to Dobřichovice, where the following day – on Sunday, June 2 at 9:30 it will continue along Berounka river through Lety, Řevnice, Zadní Třebaň and Hlásná Třebáň to Karlštejn. An abundant cultural programme will be prepared in all the villages and towns on the parade route for the visitors of the event. There will be an all-day accompanying programme on the meadow at Karlštejn on Sunday.
The parade will end with a ceremonial placement of Crown jewels by Charles IV and his wife in the Chapel of the Holy Cross in Karlštejn castle.
The Royal parade from Prague to Karlštejn is loosely inspired by a medieval tradition. Emperor Charles IV had the Crown jewels and other sacramentals displayed in Chapel of the God´s Body in today´s Charles square for a week after Easter. Then the jewels were returned to Karlštejn to the Chapel of the Holy Cross. And the return of the jewels to the most famous Czech castle has become a subject of this historical event.
Go back in time to the Middle Ages and join a spectacular historical event! The Royal parade from Prague to Karlštejn 2013 takes place from Friday, May 31 to Sunday, June 2, 2013. Come to say hello to Emperor Charles IV and his wife!
