House of the Black Madonna

House of the Black Madonna: a jewel of Cubist architecture

For lovers of Cubism, a must-see destination is the first building ever designed in this style – the House of the Black Madonna in Prague, a masterpiece of Cubist architecture by the famous Czech architect Josef Gočár. Until recently it housed a long-term exhibition of Czech Cubist art on three floors of the building, which was moved to make way for a selection of works from the collections of the Museum of Decorative Arts. Some of the excellent Cubist art works will be incorporated into the permanent exhibition of the National Gallery at Veletržní Palace beginning in mid-2013.
