Nelahozeves Chateau

Originally a fortress and later a Renaissance chateau built in an Italian style by Italian artists it changed owners constantly and no one stayed there for a long time

Since the 17th century the opulent residence served only as offices and warehouses and gradually started to decay. A new active chapter started to be written only at the end of the last century, when the chateau was returned, as restitution, to the family of Lobkowicz and opened to the public.

Why visit

The chateau houses a signifi cant part of the collections of the Lobkowicz family, which rank among the oldest, the most extensive and the most well-preserved private arts and architecture collections in the Czech Republic. Another part of the collection can be seen in the Lobkowicz Palace in the Prague Castle.

The view into the aristocratic interiors of the Lobkowicz family illustrates how an old and influential noble family lived in one of their eminent chateaux in the countryside. Hunting was the essential entertainment of the autumn months, which is shown by trophies of the chase, a collection of firearms and stag horn furniture.
