Broumov Monastery: Mummies and the Turin Shroud

Come and visit Broumov Monastery, whose greatest moments of glory came during the Hussite Wars when it was under siege twice. Unlike the monastery at Břevnov, which was burnt to the ground, the Broumov Monastery managed to fend off the attacker, and in around 1420 its reputation grew considerably. Broumov Monastery impresses visitors with its Baroque makeover performed by the Dientzenhofers and a collection of precious artefacts on display. You can see a unique copy of the Turin Shroud, Vamberk mummies dating from the 17th and 18th centuries in the undercroft and a Gothic fresco entitled “The Three Kings” in the bell tower. The monastery also possesses relics of St. Procopius, a splinter of wood said to be from the Holy Cross and a Gothic Madonna.
