In North Bohemia you will discover a significant monument of the Saxon Renaissance. A complex of two separate chateaux was built in the 16th century in Benešov nad Ploučnicí by the important noble family Salhausen. Take a tour of the Upper and Lower chateaux and see which one you prefer. You will appreciate the unique exhibition of porcelain, period furniture, weapons, and also paintings and prints which will elucidate the life of the nobility. Walk through the courtyard and garden to see the armoury, the Renaissance hall, the dining room, bedrooms and kitchen. But that’s not all: Part of the complex is also the adjacent parish church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, which is admired for its exceptional Renaissance architecture.
