Wandering along Observation Towers of České Švýcarsko and the Lužické hory (Mountains)

The national park České Švýcarsko is situated at the state border with Germany and includes the most beautiful and from the natural point of view most valuable part of the Labe Sandstones. At the opposite side of the border situated is the German National Park, the Saxon Switzerland. Both parks together represent an area that, as to its extent, with the parallel minimum settlement, has no analogy in Europe. Imposing views of the countryside of vast woods, rock towns and deep river valleys have been made possible for the visitors, for over a hundred years already, by the numerous local observation towers. It is possible to reach all on foot or ride on a bicycle, under all observation towers the railway line leads, the ascent is not too demanding and it pays to pack into the rucksack, at least a small telescope. The observation towers Dymník near Rumburk, Jedlová near Varnsdorf, Tanečnice near Mikulášovice and Weifberg near Sebnitz are opened all the year round, Vlčí hora (Mountain) near Krásná Lípa has limited working hours during the winter months. Detailed information is provided by the Information Centre of the National Park in Krásná Lípa.

České Švýcarsko from the bird‘s eye view

From the observation towers Tanečnice and Vlčí hora is a perfect view of the Kyjovské valley. Leading through it is an interesting seeing round that the visitors may pass themselves or with a guide. From the valleys it is possible to continue on foot or by bicycle to the several kilometres distant Obere Schlouse, little known defiles at the German side of the border. In the deep canyon of the small river Křinice, from April to October trips on punts are organized. The route continues to the newly built observation tower Weifberg from where mainly rock towers and table mountains of the Saxon National Park may be observed. On the other hand, nice views of the Czech National Park open from the surroundings of Pravčická brána, the largest rock gate in Europe that is considered the symbol of České Švýcarsko. Apart from the sightseeing routes and plateaus available for the tourists is the pleasure manor Sokolí hnízdo with the museum and stylish restaurant.
