The museum founded in 1886 collects documents about the natural richness of Český ráj (the Bohemian Paradise) and its cultural history. With regard to the mineralogical variety of the region the permanent expositions are devoted, especially, to processing of precious stones and garnet jewels, archaeology and ethnography. Exhibited in the gallery is the panoramatic picture by M. Aleš The Massacre of the Saxons below Hrubá Skála (8.5 x 10 m).
