An extensive range of mountains at the border with Germany and Austria with forests of the character of primeval forest, planes, peat-bogs, rocks, stone seas and ice lakes, and at the same time protected landscape area, the largest Czech National Park (685.2 km2) and UNESCO biospheric preserve with a number of natural monuments. The most interesting places attractive for tourists include the area around Modrava, Povydří, Kvilda and Borová Lada, the springs of the Vltava river and a number of natural preserves – Jezerní slať, the lakes Laka, Plešné, Černé a Čertovo, Boubínský primeval forest or the waterfall Bílá strž.
