Situated at the headland flown-round from three sides by the river Vltava has been for eight centuries already the fortified area that belongs among the best preserved Cistercian monasteries in the Czech lands. An architectonic jewel is the three-aisled basilica with the chapel of Andělé strážní, the oldest preserved building of monastery of the period after 1350. Located in the interiors is the permanent exposition of South-Bohemian literature.
