The water castle built at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries was protected by a unique fortification system of two fortification lines, moats and a system of ponds; in case of danger the surrounding meadows could be flooded and the castle became an artificial island. Passing through the castle the form of which did not impair the later re-buildings are two visitors' routes with indicative installation of the life at Švihov at the beginning of the 16th century.
