The Krkonoše (Giant Mountains)

Picture Nowhere else in the Czech Republic exists, in such a small area, such a rich concentration of high-mountain sceneries and skiing centres as in the Krkonoše (Giant Mountains). The mountains that have become the cradle of Czech skiing, thanks to natural beauties and excellent snow conditions rank among the most frequently visited recreational places of Central Europe. The famous centres of summer and winter festivities include Harrachov, Špindlerův Mlýn, Pec pod Sněžkou and Janské Lázně. The Krkonoše (Giant Mountains) offer a well-thought system of tourist paths and cycling routes, cableways and mountain chalets, in winter ski-tows, well-arranged downhills and hundreds of kilometres of cross-country skiing routes. The visitors are attracted also by interesting museums, glass-making workshops or an interesting technical monument, the rack railway from Tanvald to Harrachov.
